Web inspection for production-wide quality assuranceWith the WI6 web inspection system, quality assurance is realized production- wide across all lines. The color-enabled control system operates on the basis of high-resolution video technology and monitors the printed web across its full width during production. In text, in linear elements (bar codes, lines etc.), in logos and in halftone images, quality or integrity defects are identified and signaled to the central Site Manager. Communication between the separate production lines and the automatic repeat production
of defective documents are therefore guaranteed. Decentralized monitoring of the entire production sequence is possible either on the Internet from a work-station or on a browser-enabled hand-held. In Lucerne, this integrated QA system is being demonstrated live on a number of different production lines in the digital and web-finishing areas.

FM6 folder-merger for direct mail productionAfter its launch at Drupa 2008 as a technology study, the new FM6 folder- merger is being showcased at innovationdays.2009 as a module in a direct-mail line. The folder-merger combines the functions of plowfolder and web merger with longitudinal split cut in a single compact component. Conversion from the folder to the merger function is complete in a few minutes. The FM6 folder merger is on display at the Hunkeler stand in an offline direct-mail production off a preprinted paper web.

FB 520-W plowfold belt on the Variweb systemNow, the plowfold belt on the Variweb enables a longitudinal fold on separate trimmed products directly after the cross cut in the universal module. The new plowfold belt is being shown on the Hunkeler stand in combination with the production of a single-sheet mailer.

Dynamic cross and linear perforationDynamic cross and linear perforation is important mainly in direct-mail production and transpromotional printing. Today, more than half of color printing systems require this inline function. With the solution developed with Tecnau, dynamic perforation is controlled by the use of intelligent marks. The module is integrated into production lines on the Kodak and Infoprint Solutions stands.

Newspaper production with variable paginationBased on genuine innovations, Hunkeler has made further decisive progress in digital newspaper production. With the POPP7 generation, the web width has been extended to 670 mm, while the DC7 drum collator ensures stability in high performance production. At innovationdays.2009, Hunkeler will be standing by with another innovation: with the specially developed Heidelberg Stahlfolder folding machine, it's now possible to produce large-format variable pagination newspapers (up to 24 sheets).

Variable-format book-on-demandFor the first time, variable-format book production is being presented on a single-sheet printer from Océ with dynamic format changeover from copy to copy. The LS6-S stacking module with gluing heads for gluing book block spines is a new feature in the line, making handling between book block production and perfect binding much more simple and secure.
